Miniature Printed Carpet - Selcuk

Gold strapwork knots across a lapis field into ten-pointed ivory stars, with turquoise, coral and madder set into the spaces like glazed tile. The pattern follows the geometry the Seljuks carved into the portals of their caravanserais and the wooden minbars of their mosques across Anatolia in the twelfth and thirteenth centuries, the same roads the fersengs measured. A lapis border of gilt vine frames the field.

Printed on polyester chenille, a soft, velvety surface with a faint sheen that takes colour the way good paper takes ink. High-resolution digital printing carries every hairline of the design onto the rug, from the smallest leaf to the vine in the border.
