Miniature Printed Carpet - Najm

A single eight-pointed star opens across a lapis field, ivory and filled with smaller stars in sage, coral and gold, with a dark star-filled heart at its centre. The corners hold the points of four more stars, cut off by the border as though the pattern were a window onto a larger sky. Najm is the Arabic word for star, and the eight-pointed star is one of the oldest forms in the art of the Islamic world. A lapis border of gilt vine frames the night.

Printed on polyester chenille, a soft, velvety surface with a faint sheen that takes colour the way good paper takes ink. High-resolution digital printing carries every hairline of the design onto the rug, from the smallest leaf to the vine in the border.
