Miniature Printed Carpet - Mantiq

A great bird opens its wings across a lapis night, sage-bodied, with ivory, turquoise and madder pinions and a long ivory tail. Look closer and its breast and tail are made of smaller birds, and a whole flock circles around it in coral, turquoise and gold. The design follows Attar's Conference of the Birds: thirty birds cross seven valleys in search of the Simurgh, their king, and at the end of the journey discover that they themselves, si murgh, the thirty birds, are the Simurgh. A lapis border of gilt vine frames the flight.

Printed on polyester chenille, a soft, velvety surface with a faint sheen that takes colour the way good paper takes ink. High-resolution digital printing carries every hairline of the design onto the rug, from the smallest leaf to the vine in the border.
