Miniature Printed Carpet - Katar

Two-humped camels walk in file across the field, lapis and terracotta, each one fitted to the next so tightly that the herd covers the ground without a gap. A few wear turquoise saddle tassels and coral halters, the way a caravan leader marked the animals of his string. A katar is a line of camels tied nose to tail, the backbone of every caravan that crossed the Silk Road. A border of gilt flowering vine on deep madder frames the march.

Printed on polyester chenille, a soft, velvety surface with a faint sheen that takes colour the way good paper takes ink. High-resolution digital printing carries every hairline of the design onto the rug, from the smallest leaf to the vine in the border.
