Miniature Printed Carpet - Kashi

The field opens as a tiled wall: eight-pointed stars and ivory crosses locked together in the pattern the potters of Kashan made famous in the thirteenth century. Halfway down, the gold stars begin to stir. They turn turquoise, sprout wings and break free of the grid, until the lower field is a flight of turquoise and ivory doves. The star-and-cross pattern, the oldest geometry of the tiled mosque, comes alive and takes to the air.

Printed on polyester chenille, a soft, velvety surface with a faint sheen that takes colour the way good paper takes ink. High-resolution digital printing carries every hairline of the design onto the rug, from the smallest leaf to the vine in the border.
