Miniature Printed Carpet - Girih

Lapis twelve-pointed stars sit in an ivory lattice of gold strapwork, linked by bands that never break, with sage, coral and turquoise filling the spaces between. Girih, Persian for knot, is the name for this geometry: a handful of tile shapes that the masons of Persia and Anatolia combined into patterns that run on without end across domes, doors and pages. A border of gilt flowering vine on chestnut frames the knot.

Printed on polyester chenille, a soft, velvety surface with a faint sheen that takes colour the way good paper takes ink. High-resolution digital printing carries every hairline of the design onto the rug, from the smallest leaf to the vine in the border.
